In recent years, tournaments like the 2Shot Goose Tournament and Mack’s Snow Goose Conservation Tournament have grown in popularity. These events, while rooted in hunting, serve as a means to bring waterfowlers together and bolster the community. Until now, these hunts have all been focused on flyways other than the Atlantic. However, that is set to change this year with the first-ever Golden Leaf Goose Classic.
Golden Leaf Goose Classic
The Golden Leaf Goose Classic is based in Wilson, NC, alongside Cut ‘Em Down Waterfowl (North Carolina’s premier waterfowling store). While North Carolina is not typically known for its waterfowl hunting, it offers exceptional opportunities for goose hunting, and this tournament format is set to bring awareness to that.
It’s set to kick off in September and follows the early goose season, as teams of up to five compete to harvest the most birds. There are designated days in the season during which teams can hunt, and mandatory check-ins are required after every day of hunting to ensure compliance with the state’s legal waterfowl regulations.
At the end of the tournament, winning teams will receive some epic prizes for the most birds, as well as a bonus category for the most bands. In addition, the money raised from this tournament will be donated throughout the local community, supporting local youth sports and local youth shooting teams. For more information and to register, visit Cut ‘Em Down Waterfowl. Registration closes August 30th.
